The initial layout of the display case was designed to comfortably hold 30 baseball cards. The dimensions of the display case offer a great deal of versatility and would also accommodate 30 horizontal cards and graded baseball cards in PSA cases. The idea is not to cram as many baseball cards as possible into the display case, but rather display the cards for the optimum visual presentation.

After discussing the project with a local woodworker he came up with this quick sketch for the display case. This is the first time that design elements were introduced into the process. The goal is to have a display case that has a traditional vintage look that won't distract from the display of the baseball cards.

These final renderings in 3D were used to make exact measurements for the actual display case model. The renderings were created using Google SketchUp and made it much easier to communicate the the case's dimmensions and layout to the woodworkers.

Here's a picture testing the shelving for PSA graded cards. We needed to verify that the shelves would allow the cards to stand properly whether they are graded cards or displayed in top loaders. You'll note that the Ty Cobb Red Background PSA 2 T206 being used for the test stands perfectly.

Here is the final model of the baseball card display case. The final case holds 25 baseball cards with a nice spacious layout. Bare in mind that this display case was made with the cheapest of possible materials and is purely used to give me a sense for how the real wall mounted prototype will display. It also provides an opportunity to display some real baseball cards and evaluate the overall visual appeal. It's apparent from this mock up that we can narrow the display case by an inch or so on each side and reduce the depth significantly to allow for a more discrete appearance.
